RV’s Offer Fun, Fuel Efficiency, Affordability and Flexibility

RV’s Offer Fun, Fuel Efficiency, Affordability and Flexibility

Pomona, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2011

Scene 1: The Car Trip. The pleasures of driving include the thrill of the open road in front of you. Majestic mountains. Rural vistas. Stunning skylines. The joys of traveling, seeing the sights and wonders of our glorious nation, while squishing the kids in the back seat, constantly being on top of one another, parents always on the lookout for a bedbug-free place to stop for the night. Oops, cut!

Scene 2: Travelling the right way. Drive and ride in the comfort of your own RV, your private hotel on wheels. There’s space to spread out and no need to stop at overpriced greasy spoons and dingy motels. You always have clean bathrooms and plenty of games to keep the kids occupied. Stop where and when you want to. To enjoy a weekend or vacation-length road trip, thousands of Americans have turned to RVs for cost-efficient, easy, fun travel.

With a plethora of choices, including size, style, and cost, RV’ing is the perfect way to get out and see the sights, both near and far. And nowhere on the West Coast can you test drive and explore more RVs than at the 59th Annual California RV Show, opening Friday, October 14 and running through Sunday, October 23 at the Fairplex in Pomona.

With 800 RVs on display and 150 additional RVs ready for consumers to test drive, the 59th Annual California RV Show is the place for everything RV. All of the major RV manufacturers, including Fleetwood, Tiffin, Thor and Winnebago, as well as iconic brands like Airstream, will be on hand to open their newest models for your inspection. Over the 10-day show, 60 seminars and demonstrations led by the manufacturers themselves will introduce buyers to the ins and outs of a wide array of brands and models.

Tom Gaither, California RV Show Director, shared, “With 40 manufacturers represented, the California RV Show really does have it all. Whatever a consumer is looking for in the RV world, is at the show.”

Manufacturers are listening to customers’ preferences and many new RVs are a stunning combination of technology, luxury materials and, much improved fuel economy.

Winnebago has introduced the Via which is built on the Mercedes Sprinter F-50 chassis, while Tiffin Motorhomes has its Breeze, built on Tiffin’s own PowerGlide chassis. Both have fuel efficient diesel engines (turbo-diesel for the Via.). Today’s diesels run cleaner than ever before and provide enough horsepower and torque to make driving and caring for a RV a breeze (no pun intended.) Both are Class A RVs, meaning the vehicles’ living area has been entirely constructed on a bare, specially designed chassis. Best of all: no special drivers’ license required.

“The Breeze is responsive to our customers, dealers, and others in the RV market,” says Bob Tiffin, President and CEO Tiffin Motorhomes. “This coach is wonderfully maneuverable and easy to park, and we’ve included many of the high-end touches of our much larger diesel pushers.”

According to Kelli Harms, Marketing and Public Relations Specialist at Winnebago, “Winnebago Industries offers the most fuel efficient lineup in the RV industry. We build all classes of motor homes on the most fuel efficient chassis available – the Mercedes Sprinter chassis.”

With a Mercedes-Benz turbo-diesel engine that is standard in every Via, consumers are guaranteed unheard-of RV performance and unrivaled fuel economy.

In addition to the efficient turbo-diesel engine, Winnebago’s Via offers LED lighting, which doesn’t get hot and cuts energy consumption up to 70% allowing longer battery life while dry camping.

So beat the high costs of vacationing by enjoying your own RV. A study by PKF Consulting, an international consulting firm with expertise in travel and tourism, found that “typical RV family vacations are on average 27 to 61 percent less expensive than other types of vacations studied.” Even factoring in RV ownership and fuel costs, the study reveals that RV family vacations tend to be significantly less expensive than other types of vacations.

Fuel prices would have to more than double for typical motorhome vacations to become more expensive than other forms of travel, according to PKF Consulting. The study also shows that fuel costs would have to more than triple for trips in lightweight travel trailers or folding camping trailers to be more expensive than the least expensive non-RV vacation. Almost 80 percent of the RV market consists of towable RVs, including lightweight units which can be towed by car, van or pickup.

The 59th Annual California RV Show, the largest RV show in the West, opens on Friday, October 14 at 10 a.m. at the Pomona Fairplex and is guaranteed to bring the economy and fun of RV travel to everyone who visits.

Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, Friday, October 14 through Sunday, October 23. Admission is $ 10 for adults (allows unlimited re-entry for the length of the show) and FREE for kids 17 and younger when accompanied by an adult. Seniors (65 +) can use an online coupon on Monday, October 17 only and pay only $ 6 for entry and a wristband. The Pomona Fairplex is located 2200 North White, just off the 10 Freeway, Pomona. Call 951-274-9215 for recorded information. Visit http://www.CaRvShow.com for discount admission coupons and complete event details.

Lymphoma Survivor Outruns Cancer with Team in Training

Team In Training helps raise money for cancer research.

Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2011

After surviving Hodgkin lymphoma, Ann Altman has decided to celebrate the gift of life by helping to further cancer research. She joined up with Team In Training, a Bay Area marathon training group, to become a marathon runner and raise funds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. After gaining back her strength and getting into the best shape of her life, Altman will join thousands of people dedicated to finding a cure in the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco on October 16th.

Ann Altman hadn’t run since the 800-meter race in 7th grade, but when an old friend called from Chicago and dared her to train with her for their first marathon, she couldn’t turn her down.

“There I was, stunned and with no good excuses,” Altman said. “My friend Jenna, who had almost completed treatment for a rare type of lymphoma, wanted to sign up to train with Team In Training, and raise money for cancer research and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I was amazed at her stamina. And then I started to think about how important it is to her – and to me – that we survived cancer,” she said. “And so this run would be our celebration of the life we’ve been given after cancer.”

Altman is also a cancer survivor, of Hodgkin lymphoma. She was diagnosed at 23, eight years ago, and endured 12 sessions of chemotherapy. The treatments are debilitating, and often leave patients physically weak, so it took Altman several years to fully return to athletics. After a full recovery, she became more physically active than she had ever been before, to strengthen her body after all it had been through. Her first marathon is the Nike Women’s Marathon to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, set for October 16 in San Francisco.

“Now, as I train with the North Peninsula run team,” Altman said, “I realize how grateful I am to be alive. I run as a show of gratitude for my life that came after my illness. If it weren’t for well-funded scientific research, I wouldn’t be here.”

Altman is part of Team In Training’s group of 3,700 runners and race-walkers at the Nike Women’s Marathon, who together have raised more than $ 12.7 million for cancer research and patient services. It is the largest race to benefit LLS (raising $ 118 million since 2004). LLS has raised more than $ 1 billion in two decades through its Team In Training program.

Altman is often asked to speak to her teammates about her experience with cancer, giving them a first-hand glimpse of the miracles of modern medicine that they are helping to support.

“I guess I never wanted my whole life to be about cancer survival, but with this group I feel I’m right where I need to be right now. Team In Training allows me to show what life looks like after a cancer diagnosis – that life goes on, and can return to normal,” she said. “And now I’m actually going to run a marathon! I should thank my friend, Jenna, for calling me.”

TNT is now forming Bay Area triathlon training, marathon training, and half marathon training teams for the upcoming season. To learn more about TNT, visit http://www.teamintraining.org/sf. About Team in Training

Team In Training (TNT) offers marathon training, half-marathon training, and triathlon training. TNT began in 1988, when Bruce Cleland of Rye, NY formed a team that raised funds and trained to run the New York City Marathon in honor of Cleland’s daughter Georgia, a leukemia survivor.

The team of 38 runners raised $ 322,000 for LLS’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter. Because of the pioneering efforts of Cleland and the Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter, Team In Training was born and has grown into the world’s largest endurance sports training program. Cleland was honored by Runner’s World magazine in 2004 as one of their “Heroes of Running” for his role in establishing TNT.

Whether participants choose The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s traditional Team In Training program or TNT Flex, a flexible, customized online training option developed by TNT’s renowned coaches, they get all the support they need to cross the finish line at the marathon, half marathon, triathlon, century ride and hike adventure of their choice. Both offer a choice of world-class events, travel arrangements to an exciting destination, and a fabulous, activity-filled weekend once they’re there.

About The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Phra Malai, one of the Orient’s most impressive pieces of literature, will just be part of many items up for sale and display at this weekend’s Eighth Annual Houston Vintage Book, Postcard and Paper Festival.

David Nutzman of StoneMonkey Books presents this 40-foot-long hand-painted manuscript that tells the story of Phra Malai. It is one of Buddhism’s deepest stories.

The festival, put on by DM Promotions in conjunction with the Texas Booksellers Association, takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Stafford Center, 10505 Cash Road, in Stafford. Admission is $ 3.50 per person and is good for both days. Children are allowed in free with a paid adult. Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

“Each year, we seem to bring out better and better books and items for our returning friends or newcomers,” said Daniel Monsanto of DM Promotions. “There just always is an energy surrounding our Houston festival and I’m expecting another great event this weekend.”

Houston is a city rich with history. Many books and postcards over the years have represented how the town has grown from simply a Downtown-centric focus to the Astrodome, Greenway Plaza, the Texas Medical Center, Loop 610 and Sam Houston Tollway. The Pepsom Group – a Diverse Company Selected by National Inventors Hall of Fame 3rd Year at US Patent and Trademark Expo

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 14, 2011

John E. Brown, Founder & President of the Pepsom Group (Miami FL) together with the company’s co-founder and Vice-President Miya Haag, conceptualized and trademarked “Pepsom, the New Generation of Epsom Salt®”.

The National Inventors Hall of Fame selected this company because of their innovation and success as a new enhanced brand of Epsom Salt – a first aid staple in a vast majority of homes in the US. Epsom salt has been used for generations to comfort tired, aching muscles, sprains, bruises, and is also known to improve sleep due to the relaxation experienced when soaking in this essential mineral. By enhancing Epsom salt and creating the Pepsom brand (magnesium sulfate infused with 100% natural and refreshing ingredients), the Pepsom Group continues to collect awards, recently winning “Best in Class” from Bi-Lo Supermarkets and the coveted “Emerging Business of the Year” Award from Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

The Pepsom Group is unique in many ways. This minority-owned corporation manufactures and markets Pepsom Sports® and Pepsom Salt® as “green” health and wellness products which have already transformed the otherwise staid first aid sections of food and drug stores. The brands are now sold in 20,000 food and drug stores due to the vast retail knowledge of John Brown’s 30+ years in the retail industry (as one of the first African-Americans to represent such brands as Gerber, Hanover Brands.) Ms. Haag, an Asian-American product designer, garnered the attention of both retailers and consumers by creating bright, eye-catching packaging and logos.

Mr. Brown states, “We are proud to have been selected for the 2011 National Trademark Expo, together with Traveler, GEICO, Bridgestone, and Mattel, etc. Within a few short years, we have gained access to 20,000 retail outlets not to mention our on-line presence on Drugstore.com, Walmart.com and more. Our USPTO trademark registrations have been instrumental to our success. The Expo will educate other companies about the value of trademarks, and what every business should know about intellectual property. We are looking forward to making the Pepsom brand a household name.”

About the Pepsom Group, Inc.

Following two years of research and development, the Pepsom Group incorporated in 2007and launched the first National Brand of Epsom salt geared for first aids. Honored by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Congress twice, this company is comprised also of senior staff members of the Miami Heat basketball team, as well as key advisory from former senior executives of Gatorade and IMG. The Five Dimensions of Application Performance Monitoring

Friday, October 14th, 2011

Gartner Inc. identified five dimensions to application performance monitoring that it found worth evaluating in its recent Magic Quadrant market study.1 Gartner selected companies that had at least 50 customers that use their application performance monitoring (APM) software, and each APM solution had to incorporate at least two of the five dimensions in their product.

This article will look at these five dimensions and review how Nastel Technology’s AutoPilot application performance monitoring products measured up in these five areas in the Gartner study.

Application Performance Monitoring Database

The following four dimensions in application performance monitoring have been used separately for some time. The development of this dimension occurred primarily as a means of taking the mass volume of data produced by the other four dimensions and extracting value from them.

Gartner gives an example where the APM database detects that an end-user application is experiencing a slowdown in response time and the frequency of this slowdown is accelerating. This slowdown has been identified by a set of user-defined transaction profiles.

The APM database then moves into component discovery and model evaluation. The location of the data center in which the problem is occurring is identified in this process. Then the deep-dive monitoring tools identify the specifics within the system so that corrective action can be taken.

The APM Database is coordinated by a complex event processing (CEP) engine designed to integrate the information flowing from the four other dimensions.

Application Component Deep Dive Monitoring

Deep-dive monitoring uses a diverse set of technologies. It goes beyond the snapshots application component discovery and modeling, user-defined transaction profiling and end user experience monitoring provides into the health of a system. It uses these snapshots to provide effective performance diagnosis and problem resolution.

IT systems are highly modular today and often include such diverse elements as database management systems, application server middleware, message-oriented middleware, off-the-shelf application stack frameworks and even network infrastructure. Deep-dive monitoring is a vital component in any application performance monitoring system.

Application Component Discovery And Modeling

According to Gartner, this is the one dimension that needs the most development. Most companies offering this component are amalgamating three diverse technologies to accomplish the task. These three technologies include IT service dependency mapping tools, transaction profile snapshots created from user-defined transaction reports, and SOA topology maps.

User-Defined Transaction Profiling

]]>

Complex-event processing (CEP) engines may also be designed to track user-defined transactions through the application stack and infrastructure that supports the application. User-defined transaction profiling uses two technologies currently to perform this type of profiling—automated transaction-centric event correlation and analysis and transaction tagging.

End User Experience Monitoring

According to Gartner, technology that looks at how applications affect enterprise users and business customers and measure the customer experience uses four different technology types: 1) synthetic transaction-based software robots, 2) network-attached appliance-based packet capture and analysis systems, 3) endpoint instrumentation systems based on classical manager agent software architectural schemes, and 4) special-purpose systems targeted at voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and other complex IP-based services.

Nastel’s Performance in the Application Performance Monitoring Evaluations

Gartner reviewed several of Nastel’s APM products. AutoPilot for WMQ, has been providing deep-dive monitoring and full lifecycle management for WebSphere MQ since its launch in 1994. The ability to provide deep-dive monitoring for Java-based applications and SOA was added soon after. From this base in middleware and application discovery and deep-dive monitoring, AutoPilot has expanded through the use of targeted add-ons—including TransactionWorks for user-defined transaction profiling, and Autopilot M6 for application component deep-dive discovery and operational monitoring—to provide all five dimensions of application performance management database functionality.

Nastel’s performance earned a rating of visionary. Gartner gave this rating to companies that have consistently been leaders in one or more of the APM dimensions. A visionary company also had to have demonstrated their ability to grow rapidly and maintain their position in the submarket they serviced. The company also had to have a business strategy that didn’t depend on acquisitions.

The company’s vision of transforming its product from one that primarily provided message-queuing middleware management in early 2009 to one that completes within the APM space had already been successful by the time Gartner’s study began. Nastel also continues to show a record of strong in growth in the both the financial and industrial sectors.

Nastel’s sales force has had to adjust to the changing dynamics of marketing to business units rather than IT departments, its previous primary market. Its reputation for deep technical competence isn’t as well known among business decision makers, something that Gartner noted. This has changed since the evaluation commenced.

The various AutoPilot modules are customizable and provide a depth of information that makes this application performance monitoring solution very competitive with the better known solutions. Gartner found implementing and maintaining the product slightly more complex than some of the other technology products it tested. When asked to comment on this, Nastel said their support team works very closely with clients to resolve any issues that arise during implementation and maintenance. They are still working with clients that started with them 11 years ago.

With that kind of track record, Nastel Technology, Inc. will continue to be a company to watch in this rapidly evolving field. The ability of its IT applications to support all five dimensions of APM has already been recognized by Gartner, and new iterations of the product have already been released since the study. Application performance monitoring is clearly the technology of the future. Expect Nastel’s AutoPilot to be one of the solutions competing for the top in the next Magic Quadrant study.

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Whether your business – like the BBC – has earmarked Salford as a major centre for investment, or you need to keep in touch with family and friends who have relocated to the bustling Quays, you will appreciate the range of services offered by a modern courier company.

When it was the cradle of the development of the industrial north of England, built on the arrival of the cotton and textile industries, Salford was far more commercially prominent than neighbouring Manchester.

The opening of the Bridgewater Canal in 1761 was the main catalyst for the city’s rise to prosperity, which saw the cotton industry barons become among the richest men in the country. The rivalry between Salford and Manchester is rooted in this period, as both cities competed for investment – and the rivalry remains strong, although in the eyes of many from outside the region, the two cities are indistinguishable.

Salford was the site of the world’s first unconditionally free public library, and it is still perceived as a centre of knowledge, thanks to the presence of Salford University, which is a respected institution for the study and research of health, engineering and sciences. Lying north and west of the city of Manchester, Salford has excellent transport connections. It stands astride the M60 Manchester orbital motorway, is within easy reach of the M6 Birmingham to Carlisle motorway, and is just a few miles north-east of Manchester Airport, which offers a vast range of international connections.

Greater Kansas City Shoe Roundup

Happily buried in a pile of shoes, “George “The Shoeman” Hutchings is surrounded by a great team. From left to right: Tim Borrson, Director of Operations; Becky Nieters, Shoe Drive Coordinator; Rich K, Director of Donor Relations; and Julie Scaglione, Director of Community Relations.

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) September 30, 2011

Twelve StorageMart locations in the Greater Kansas City area are collecting shoes for Shoeman Water Projects purification initiatives. Between now and November 15, 2011, the company has set a goal of 15,000 pairs of shoes and are asking area schools, churches, businesses and community organizations to join this effort by organizing shoe drives to help meet this goal. Every shoe-wearing individual can help by simply cleaning out their closet and dropping off the shoes they no longer want or wear at a StorageMart location. It’s “shoe” easy!

Shoes collected will be sold to retailers in third world countries who provide affordable footwear for people who need shoes to protect their feet against parasites, abrasions and infection. Proceeds from these sales go to dig wells and provide water purification systems for those who thirst.

Shoeman volunteer and drive coordinator, Melanie Dearing of Harrisonville, MO noted that all types of shoes are needed but they must be free of rips or holes and should be tied or rubber banded together when dropped off. Larger amounts of shoes can be placed in black trash bags and dropped at StorageMart during regular business hours, which vary but range between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Anyone interested in being part of this drive in Kansas City should call 816-226-7360 for additional details.

“It’s a great project for students from Kindergarten through college and it’s rewarding to know that a simple donation of a pair of shoes can actually help to save lives,” said Dearing. “We hope to get strong participation from schools to help us meet our goal. Fifteen thousand pairs of shoes will go a long way to bringing clean water to a village.”

In addition to serving as drop off locations, the four main StorageMarts in Johnson County will be providing free storage for shoes collected throughout the drive. StorageMart donates space to Shoeman Water Projects for local shoe drive events across the country.

In addition to self storage units, the company sells moving and storage supplies in every office. These supplies include items such as boxes, tape, bubble wrap, mattress covers and much more.

Since August 2008, Shoeman Water Projects has collected over 1.6 million pairs of shoes that have resulted in the purchase of 4-water-well drilling rigs, more than 250 wells, water purification system installations and well pump repairs that serve over 200,000 people serving clinics, schools, and others in villages across the globe.
