Learn French | Ten Ways To …

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

When we desire something, we desire it nowadays. Learning French should be no exception to the rule. Americans love maximal results with minimum effort. We dwell by the motto, “time is money”, and with full reason. We cram so many activities into our schedules, our time is significant. Est-ce que tu parles francais? (Do you mouth French?) You will shortly. The following suggestions are a few ways to work learning French into your fussy day.

1. Tour de France

Take a trip to dreamlike Paris. This may be a real arm-twisting suggestion, but the fastest way to learn French is to immerse yourself in the language. Eavesdrop on strangers’ conversations in picturesque cafés, all in the name of education. Wander the streets of Paris, strike up conversation with locals and in no time you’ll perfect the throaty vocals of French. As Neil Simon said, “Give your mind a chance to travel through foreign languages.”

2. Make it Movie Night

Head to your local movie store or order on your next Netflix a movie in French. Some Blockbuster suggestions: “Amelie”, “Chocolate” with Johnny Depp, and “The Dreamlife of Angels” are a few internationally successful French movies. Sit back and enjoy a flick in the comfort of your home while learning to train your ear and repeating what you hear. Soon enough you’ll connaître les ficelles?(know the ropes). Control the urge to put on the subtitles or a flick with dubbing because it’ll kill the experience.

3. Explore Your Surroundings | Make Friends

If you live in a metropolitan city, you can easily find French-speaking communities. Take a chance and practice your French by meeting new people while experiencing a beautiful culture. Check out local wine tasting events and French restaurants. Search the Internet, local bulletin boards, and your local university to find language exchange programs. If possible, join a conversation group. The more exposure you receive, the faster you’ll learn and in the process make friends. Faire d’une Pierre deux coups (To kill two birds with one stone.)

4. Sing in French

Hunt mastered some French CDs at your local store or online. Look on the inside liner and check out the lyrics. Read along with the music and in no time you’ll be belting out French with a perfect accent. Everyone will think you’ve gone bananas or dvenir dingue (in French).

5. Francophone Your Life

Grab a memo pad and label everything in your house. Deck the halls, kitchen, and bedroom, even your bulldog in French labels. Your brain will begin associating the images and words and it’ll eventually become natural.

6. Go Play.

Make a list of your favorite games and find a French version. Read the instructions and go through the motions of the game until it becomes second nature. Try French bingo, French crosswords, Jeopardy, Family Feud, Mille Bornes, and computer games. Soon you’ll pick up key phrases and absorb new vocabulary. When you’re ready for a real challenge, try out your French Cranium or Scrabble skills.

7. Read a Good Book.

Head to your local library or bookstore and find a few topics of interest. Some internationally best-selling novels in French are: “Poursuite a Quebec”, by Ian Fraser; “La Dispartition” by Geores Perec; “Introduction to French Poetry: A Dual-Language Book” by Stanely Appelbaum. Plop down in a comfy chair in a quaint café and take a mini-trip to France.

8. Watch TV.

Contrary to what your parents told you, television will not rot your brain. With satellite and cable stations providing endless channels it’s easy to tap into foreign language programs. Check out news, quiz shows, sit-coms, dramas, documentaries from France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada on http://www.tv5.org. Popular US shows like CSI, 24, Band of Brothers, Scrubs and more are all available in French. So, if you don’t find what you like on cable, you can always check out other shows on DVD. (Many DVDs have French language audio tracks!)

9. How do you say _____ in French? | Comment dit-on ____ en francais?

Learning phrases is an excellent way to accelerate learning and impress your friends or loved one. French has been labeled the language of love. Try Je t’aime (I love you too), Je t’adore (I adore you) for starters. The Pimsleur Approach has an outstanding audio program equipped with various French language learning levels. Listen to the CDs in the car during your daily transpose or on your X minute break at work. The great part about audio only programs is that you can multitask.

10. Get Classy

Are you finally ready to take classes? Joining a class will give you structure for developing a routine. In class you are forced to speak only in French and are immersed in the language for several hours a week. Your professor can correct your pronunciation and grammar errors. To get the most out of your class, try pairing the previous techniques with class work. Those various language learning tools will eventually stick and you’ll be speaking like a native in no time.

Ready to learn French? Now that you have several options to work into your routine, the better time to start learning is nowadays. Even ten minutes a day will quickly accelerate how fast you learn French. The primal is to be consistent. Bonne chance! (Good luck!)

Belgian National Broadcaster RTBF Uses SGT´s VEDA Solution for Its New Multi-channel Playout System

Boling, TX (PRWEB) February 18, 2010

SGT, a leading global software vendor in the broadcast and media industry, and Video Promotion, SGT´s privileged systems integration partner for Belgium and the Netherlands, are pleased to announce that the Belgian national broadcaster RTBF (Radio Télévision Belge de la Communauté Française) uses SGT´s VEDA solution for its new multi-broadcasting control room system.

RTBF´s objective was to overhaul its media distribution system, to build a new, multi-playout control room solution digitalizing all media, and permitting strong interaction with the new postproduction control room. The requirements for the new system were as follows:

Guarantee optimized media management and efficient content delivery Ensure high-security playout, and consequently maximum systems availability Increase the flexibility and the reactivity of the system

“Our control room solution no longer responded to our needs in terms of scalability, reactivity and reliability”, said Patrick Moulin, project manager, multi-diffusion at RTBF. “Therefore, we started to look for a system offering the performance, the flexibility and the creativity to grow our system without running any risks in terms of systems availability or security.”

The new multi-broadcasting system at RTBF went on-air in September 2009. With VEDA™, RTBF now has a powerful, reliable and scalable solution that runs complex systems using a lot of equipment and protocols.

The system integrates various VEDA components offering functionalities from Media Management, to prepare the playout, to Automation for media transmission and interfacing with external systems.

“Our big strengths in this project derive from our broad experience in the automation of TV channels facing constraints in terms of security and scalability, and from our capacity to personalize and integrate solutions in the specific context and environment of the client”, said François Chiche, Vice President Sales and Marketing at SGT. “The RTBF project was a highly ambitious 1 requiring powerful tools, new technologies and an in-depth IT-beamed expertise. We successfully faced this challenge thanks to a great team work between client, software vendor and systems integrator.”

Flexibility and reactivity
As VEDA™ integrates the distribution and media asset management systems in one unique database, information exchange between the distribution and previous processes are facilitated, such as the receipt of files or synchronized and last-minute ingests.

Securing the playout
For broadcasters, such as RTBF, it is vital to ensure the continuity of playout. Consequently, the security of the system was one of the identified requirements. RTBF, Video Promotion and SGT built a system´s architecture based on an active/active security cluster for 16 channels (8×2). Each channel should have a transmitted backup (a main channel and a synchronized back-up channel) to ensure highest availability of the system.

Scalability and adaptability
Other requirements were scalability and adaptability allowing new channels or further functionalities to be added at any time. “Thanks to our expertise and specific know-how in dealing with highly complex and challenging projects, we successfully helped RTBF to benefit from a most modern, reliable and scalable playout solution”, said Michel Loiseau, Manager at Video Promotion. “As their privileged systems integrator and equipment provider we demonstrated our ability to adapt to various situations and respond to specific customer requirements in a very customized and personalized way.”

What is so Good About Sony Corporation?

Monday, March 14th, 2011

The name Sony was made by compounding “SONUS,” the original Latin for “SONIC,” meaning sound, with “SONNY,” denoting little size, or a vernal boy. It was selected for its elementary pronunciation that is the same in any language. So why is Sony one of the great consumer electronic manufacturers?

Since 1946 Sony has been committed to bringing the world the best in technology. Even though Sony has been around for many years, the original Sony was actually called – Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation or more commonly Totsuko. It was only in January 1958 that the company changed its name to Sony Corporation after taking “SONUS,” the original Latin for “SONIC,” meaning sound, with “SONNY,” denoting small size, or a youthful boy. So, the name Sony was used because of its ease of pronunciation in any language!

Apart from looking at simply the corporate world of Sony, there is much more to Sony that makes it a leader in consumer electronics. This innovation comes with Sony not but simply recreating products, but actually inventing new technology.

In May 1960 – Sony was the first company to create the world’s first direct-view portable television. The TV8-301 the world’s first non-projection-type portable transistor tele comprised of 23 transistors and 19 diodes, this model was developed based on Sony’s extensive experience in radio technology. In an age when television sets were assumed to be living room fixtures, this device opened the door to personal television use. Additionally, the TV8-301 model offered three choices for power input.

Sony made further advancements and in 1962 produced the worldwide’s light and smallest all transistor television (the TV5-303). The advancements however did not stop there. In 1963 the world’s first compact transistor VTR, the PV-100, launched. And in 1965 the world’s first internal-use open-reel VTR, the CV-2000, launched, paving the way to allow people to record and playback over 1 hour of video.

There are so many new offerings that Sony has brought us, which we did not have before. The Walkman is probably on of the greatest inventions from Sony. Before Sony invented the portable Walkman, there was no practical way of going for a Jog with music playing. Sony also brought us the world’s first CD player also, which is something we see included in our PC, our HiFi system, and our car!

Sony is an electronics manufacturer who has gone above what many other electronic companies value, as such Sony has brought us many great inventions which have benefited mankind. Sony continues to innovate and be a world class leader in reliable electronics, with that elegant and ergonomic Sony style.

There?s More than a Remote Chance the Remote isn?t Broken

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Loudon, TN (PRWEB) April 21, 2006

ODESSA, FL – March 28, 2006 – According to Consumer Electronic Association, over 33 million remote controls are replaced each year in the US marketplace. Surprisingly, millions of them did not really need to be replaced. Consumers incorrectly thought their remotes were broken when they really were not.

Charlie Waters, Technical Director at MrRemoteControls.com, a company selling original replacement remote controls, explains, “A high percentage of non-working remotes appear to be dead but can actually be brought back to life. Of course, that is only true if they have not been thrown at a wall, chewed by the dog, or physically damaged in other ways. There is a little known but very simple technique people can use to ‘reset’ their non-working remote to make it work like new.”

If a remote has suddenly stopped operating even after the batteries have already tried replacing, these easy steps can be followed to get it working again:

1. Take the batteries out of the remote control.

2. Press and hold every single button down, for 3 seconds, one at a time until every button has been pressed and released

do not skip any buttons.

3. If the remote has slide bars, the slide must be moved to each position then step no. 2 should be repeated.

4. When finished, put the slide bar in the correct position to operate the desired unit (for example TV).

5. Put new batteries in and try the remote.

Waters continues, “When customers call us and say their remote has stopped working we ask them to try this process before ordering a new remote. Over 20% get positive results and are delighted when their unit seems to have magically been repaired. The real reason is that the IC chip, known as the brains of electronics, often loses its memory or gets locked up and this procedure resets it back to factory specifications.”

If the above method does not work, there are choices for a replacement. “Most people gravitate toward an universal remote control as a solution. The problem is most universal remotes just cannot get the job done – they do not operate key features like full menu or programming functions, which are necessary on most of today’s sophisticated electronic equipment. In addition, the program codes are needed to setup universal remotes. For many people this is as difficult as getting the clock on their VCR to stop blinking. Consumers often end up dissatisfied with universals and are left trying to purchase the exact original remote,” says Waters.

But finding the original remote for purchase is easier said than done. Retail stores cannot carry original remote controls; there are simply too many of them to keep on the shelves. And if the remote is purchased from the manufacturer, if you can find them, consumers should be prepared to pay premium dollar for the original remote. Often they cost from $ 49 to over $ 100 plus many older models have been discontinued. That is where MrRemoteControls.com can be of assistance. With over 250,000 original new remotes in stock dating from 1987 to the present, most models can be replaced with the exact remote and at very discounted prices.
