Guava to Appear on BBC’s Politics Show

London, UK (PRWEB) June 3, 2009

Dan Sharp, SEO Technical Manager at Guava, is to appear on the BBC’s Politics Show presented by Jon Sopel on Sunday 7th June. The show will be broadcast on BBC One at 11:00am.

Dan will be discussing the importance of the internet to politics, especially in relation to the rise of social media – and how it might develop in the future. He will talk about Barack Obama’s pioneering online marketing campaign leading to his presidency, with comparison to British political parties and their use web as a communication tool surrounding the European Parliament and Council Elections.

Dan has been with Guava since February 2005, and now makes up part of the Search Engine Marketing team at Hurst in Berkshire. The interview also follows a succession of guest lectures by other members of the Guava team, Luke Richards and Mark Edmondson, at University College Falmouth in Cornwall in which they used Barack Obama as a digital marketing case study.

Lucy Cokes, managing director at Guava, said:

“It is an honour for us to have Dan appear on The Politics Show. The developing relationship between politics and the internet has become increasingly interesting over the last year, especially with the continued rise of social sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Obama’s success proves the importance of visibility on the web – as well as knowing how to adapt to new technologies and methods of communication.”

ClearDebt Talkback on BBC Radio 5′s Wake up to Money Programme

ClearDebt Talkback on BBC Radio 5′s Wake up to Money Programme

(PRWEB) October 11, 2009

CEO of IVA and Debt Management specialists ClearDebt Group Plc, David Mond, had an early start to his day when he was interviewed on BBC’s Radio 5, Wake up to Money programme this week.

In response to CCCS’s Malcolm Hurlston’s comments last Friday 18 September, ClearDebt’s CEO found it disturbing that Hurlston said there was no need for fee paying debt solution companies in their sector.

Rebuking Hurlston’s comments, Mond, also Chairman of the Debt Resolution Forum (DRF), told presenters of Radio 5′s popular morning show, that the Money Advice Trust has confirmed it believes 4 million people in the UK are currently seeking debt advice and yet only 2 million will receive help from non fee paying companies such as the CCCS. Mond says of this statistic, “The charitable agencies in this sector aren’t equipped to cope with the demand and this means 2 million further debtors are left waiting up to 4 days for a call back. When the phone calls keep coming and someone’s banging on the front door step, 4 days is a long time to wait”.

ClearDebt confirm that they respond to clients within the same day as the enquiry and debtors can be placed in an appropriate debt resolution solution within just 3 weeks.

Earlier this year, the Debt Resolution Forum which strives for high standards and clear ethics from the fee paying debt resolution organisations, established the first ever formal qualification in debt resolution entitled Cert(DR) accredited by Edexcel. This qualification ensures debtors receive accurate and reliable advice on their situation. David Mond confirmed ClearDebt advisers (and its sister company Abacus (Financial Consultants) advisers are enrolled in the programme for Cert(DR) and will be one of the first groups to qualify.

Chris Evans to Host Ferrari Sports Car Event for Children in Need at Chewton Glen

Chris Evans’ Ferrari Sports Car Event at Chewton Glen Country House Hotel in 2009

Hampshire, England (PRWEB) June 22, 2010

Chris Evans will be hosting a special sports car event in aid of Children in Need next month at Chewton Glen, the country house hotel in Hampshire.

On Thursday 1st July 2010, Chewton Glen Hotel is hosting a photo opportunity for invited members of the press, where they will have the opportunity of photographing a unique line-up of seven magnificent Ferraris and their lucky drivers. This sports car event is part of the 2010 ‘Chris Evans Magnificent Seven’, a unique Ferrari drive organised by BBC Radio 2 celebrity broadcaster Chris Evans and his team.

The sports car event begins by hosting the Ferrari Drivers’ Banquet, followed by an overnight stay at the country house hotel in Hampshire for all drivers and their co-drivers.

This is the second year that Chewton Glen has supported Chris Evans’ fundraising efforts for the Children in Need appeal. The project raised over half a million pounds for the BBC’s Children in Need campaign in November 2009, when the lucky drivers bid on-air during Chris’s radio show, to win a place in the sports car event – which culminates in being placed in the ‘super car’ batch at the Hill Climb at Goodwood on Sunday 4th July 2010.

“Our country house hotel is delighted to be an official host of Chris Evans’ sports car event, so that we can support Children in Need again this year” commented Chewton Glen’s Managing Director, Andrew Stembridge.

The seven Ferraris taking part in this year’s sports car event are: the 1964 Ferrari 250 Lusso; 1990 Ferrari F40; 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO; 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB4; 1971 Ferrari Dino; 1957 Ferrari Testarossa Recreation; and finally the world record breaking James Coburn 1961 Ferrari 250 California Spyder.

The sports cars, their drivers, and hopefully Pudsey Bear, are scheduled to arrive at Chewton Glen at around 3pm, and Chris Evans has agreed to host the photo opportunity on the Croquet Lawn at the country house hotel. The cars will be displayed during the afternoon whilst the drivers enjoy the experience of afternoon tea in Hampshire at its finest.

About Chewton Glen Hotel:

Chewton Glen is a luxury country house hotel and spa in Hampshire, set within 130 acres of English countryside on the edge of the New Forest National Park.

Cloudyreason Inc. Designs New Flip Flop Socks™ for Devoted Flip Flop Wearers

Cloudyreason Inc. Designs New Flip Flop Socks™ for Devoted Flip Flop Wearers

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) December 21, 2003

Michele Baer of Cloudyreason, Inc. has launched a design for what looks to become the newest buzz around college campuses and around the world: Flip Flop Socks.

Cold weather crowds want to be in fashion but have typically found the winter season a challenge when trying to make bulky socks fit their shoes while attempting to keep feet warm at the same time. Cloudyreason’s new design eliminates that problem by providing a sock that incorporates a fitted big toe and a normal type sock enclosing the remaining four.

V. Graham Norton, the U.K. equivalent of David Letterman, has requested samples to feature during his late night Television program on the BBC America, according to Baer.

“For as long as anyone can remember, those who prefer the dressed down look have always accessorized with the charming sandal known around the world as the flip-flop,” said Baer. “These cult classics have been worn by almost everyone at one point in time or another and are still one of the best selling footwear products summer or winter.”

Since the sale of the first pair of Flip Flop Socks in October, the company has been approached by University bookstores nationwide, including by the University of Texas, to license and manufacture the socks, sporting team and school logos.

Baer is quick to dissuade anyone from being turned off by the irregular shape of the sock. “These comfortable cotton blend socks not only fit perfectly but also add a stylish touch without the hokey look of a foot glove.”

Thousands of pairs have already been sold on the internet, surf shops and bookstores and Baer is anxiously preparing for a flood of retail orders that she anticipates will begin Spring 2004.

“The old 35-cent rubber sandal that was bought once a year to wear to the beach has made it to the big time, and our socks just make it that much better for flip flop lovers. ” Baer proudly proclaimed.

The Anatomy of an Amazing Showreel Production

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

There are times when a presentation or production needs a fully complete product, where everything is in place already. Whether you don’t have time to put into building a presentation from scratch, or you don’t have the skills or equipment and software to put together your own video, there are solutions available that will still enable you to put together an amazing presentation without a lot of effort. These prebuilt videos are called “showreels”.

While being able to put together your own production or presentation from scratch certainly works well for a completely custom end product, being able to use showreels and other stock video footage to put together your presentation saves a lot of time and headaches. Showreels are usually a lot more economical than trying to put together a complete production since everything in a show reel is completed. Not only has the reel already been edited together, including the music tracks, all of the legalities have been completed as well. You’ll only have one set of rights to purchase, instead of having to ensure you’ve got rights for every part of your product.

Essentially, a showreel is a totally finished video. It has multiple clips already put together in a very powerful presentation, as well as all the music and effects. All of the rights for the clips used are included and the rights for the music are included as well meaning you don’t have to track down all the different copyrights associated with the video. The clips are already edited together using professional production values, ensuring that the showreel you use will be totally professional and will look great. Since you’ve got the rights to the entire showreel, with a little editing, you can use either part or all of the showreel in your presentation and customize it to your needs.

Take a look at all the great showreels available and see just how easily you can incorporate them into your presentation or production. Being able to save time and money by using showreels means you can put together your presentation or movie for a lot less than you may have budgeted. And being able to use a prebuilt video means you don’t have to invest a lot of time in editing and production. You’ll be amazed at the wide array of reels that are available, and how easy you’ll be able to take advantage of the finished products that you won’t need to edit at all.

When Bret Hodge wanted to use a showreel for a video presentation he was working on, he knew that a little research could go a long way into getting a quality clip. Whether it’s HD video or news footage you need, BBC Motion Gallery has one of the largest and most respected stock footage collections anywhere.

Visit Sierra Leone Helps Kick Start Sierra Leone?s Tourism Industry

Visit Sierra Leone Helps Kick Start Sierra Leone’s Tourism Industry

(PRWEB) October 28, 2005

For the past year and a half, VisitSierraLeone.org ( http://www.visitsierraleone.org ) has been showing off Sierra Leone’s tourism potential. Now in collaboration with TVE and Explore Worldwide this has been taken one step further following the filming of a documentary looking at Sierra Leone’s tourism Industry.

Head of VisitSierraLeone, Bimbola Carrol spent a week with the film crew exploring potential adventure tourism areas such as Outamba Kilimi National Park in the North and Tiwai Island Wildlife Sanctuary in the South. Whilst at River Number 2 beach, where a commercial for Bounty (chocolate) was filmed in the 80s Mr Carrol said, “It’s amazing, this is truly one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen – a tropical paradise.”

However, he still acknowledges that Sierra Leone has more to do to promote itself. “Sierra Leone is safe to visit but some people are still apprehensive because of the negative images which came out of the country during its 11 year civil war. We need all stakeholders in the industry to play a part in tackling these negative perceptions still held by so many. I hope this documentary will go some way in tackling this issue.”

There has already been some positive feedback from the film ( http://www.tve.org/lifeonline/ ) which was shown on BBC World during the last week and will get its debut on Sierra Leone National Television shortly.

Mr. Terry, an American businessman in Germany contacted him saying: “I have seen the BBC programme referred to in your October 20, 2005 news item on tourism and eco-tourism in Sierra Leone. I was very impressed with the work that you and others featured in the programme have accomplished down in Sierra Leone.”

“I and my business partners look forward someday soon to visiting Sierra Leone to witness the beauty of your country firsthand, to meet the people there, and to examine closely the investment and business opportunities that you and your colleagues have made so apparently clear do exist in Sierra Leone today.”

John Marlique, a resident of Spain also said: “I saw the documentary on Sierra Leone this morning. It is fabulous. Thanks a lot for your efforts to bringing Sierra Leone to the light for all to see. We live in Spain, and this piece will go a long way in our efforts to persuade the people to invest into that country.”

Mr Carrol also stated that this is hopefully the kick-start that the Tourism Industry in Sierra Leone needs and the more coverage the film gets the better. “We are looking for broadcasters in the United States to show this programme on their network so that the potential of Sierra Leone is examined by the investors in that country”.

Wladimir Klitschko challenges David Haye to fight on 2nd July

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Earlier this week, Wladimir Klitschko again challenged David Haye to face him on July 2nd.

In comments to the BBC, Klitschko was typically brutal with his criticism of Haye and his assessment of the situation:

“I think after talking so much nonsense (Haye) has to show up in the ring. He has been trying to be smart but eventually he put himself in a corner. He’s talking about legacy – I don’t see the legacy with him, to be honest with you.

“I think that it’s not only my opinion but the opinion of a lot of fans. I know the British fans are looking forward to this fight and I’m looking forward to satisfying as well the British fans and to fight David Haye.

]]>

I’m right here and I’m confirming that 2 July, as I’ve said before, that’s the date for the fight. Either David Haye takes it or he just leaves the whole thing there.

“We were agreed on the money, so that we split everything 50-50, and of course there is a lot of money to make, but money is not the issue right now.”

“As I said, I can confirm the date – and the answer from David Haye was ‘I don’t want you to fight before’. The date is confirmed. Germany or the UK? It doesn’t matter.”

Wladimir Klitschko is scheduled to fight Dereck Chisora on April 30th whilst Haye will fight Ruslan Chagaev as a mandatory challenger for his WBO heavyweight belt.

Haye claims that Wladimir Klitschko’s fight against Chisora and his own fight against Chagaev does not allow him enough training fight for the proposed fixture on July 2nd. Haye is planning to retire from boxing once he turns 31 in October regardless of whether or not a fight against either of the Klitschko brothers goes ahead.

Wladimir’s older brother Vitali Klitschko is confirmed to fight the Cuban boxer Odlanier Solis in Cologne on March 19th.

Last week we reported that the Klitschko Brothers have also confirmed that one of them will fight the Polish boxer Tomasz Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs) later this year. The fight would potentially be a challenge for their Heavy weight titles. Wladimir Vitali currently holds the WBO and IBF belts whilst Vitali is the holder of the WBC title.

Before fighting one of the Klitschko brothers, Adamek will take on Kevin Mcbride on April 23rd in Newark, New Jersey

MPs Sweat it Out for Sport Relief

MPs Sweat it Out for Sport Relief

(PRWEB) June 20, 2006

Minister for Sport Richard Caborn was among a whole team of MPs and members of the House of Lords who came together today to complete the Westminster Mile and raise money for Sport Relief.

More than 70 Houses of Parliament members swapped their suits for shorts, trainers and their first Sport Relief red sock before going the distance around St James’s Park.

The MPs and Peers were in great company; starters’ orders came from legendary four-minute miler Sir Roger Bannister and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell. First past the post was Labour MP Jim Murphy with a winning time of 5mins 22seconds, four seconds faster than his 2004 Westminster Mile record. Hot on his heals were Willie Rennie MP and Tom Brake MP.

Everyone put their best feet forward to help vulnerable people here in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries, supported by Sport Relief. They are now calling on the rest of the nation to Go The Extra Mile and sign-up for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on 15 July.

Richard Caborn, Minister for Sport, said: “This has been a fantastic event. It is great to see so many of my Parliamentary colleagues getting their trainers on and stretching their legs for Sport Relief. Whether running or walking, I hope everyone has just enjoyed taking part and raising money for such a good cause.”

To see the slightly rosy-faced MPs and Peers together with tens of thousands of Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Milers in action you can tune into Sport Relief on BBC ONE, 15 July. Highlights will be part of The Sport Relief Mile show (10:30am – 12:00pm) presented by John Inverdale and The Night (19:00 – 00:30), presented by Chris Evans, Davina McCall, and Gary Lineker.

How criminals practice Facebook

Facebook intrusion

Think breaking down common face-to-face data on Facebook is harmless? You may ask to rethink, since a organised burglar has given details on how a criminal can use your exploiter accounting because a tool for committing a crime

“The info people break active Facebook, while associated with else info freely in stock on the web, lives a out-and-out ऐgoldmine for felons,” the Daily ring armor quoted Michael genus Frasera organised burglar who presents the BBC’s “cadence The Burglar” plan.

How it all beginnings?

“One and only year, you could cause a party and give out your address. A while later, you might recount everyone that it represents your 30th birthday. So, if you’ve received me equally a protagonist from a champion, I know your name, your address and your birth date. From that, I can go to 192.com and on there I can find out what you do for a living, how much your home is deserving – and whether you’re liable to personify deserving burglarizing. I mightiness have got already built up crikey listen because you’ve posted party ऐpictures on Facebook and I give the axe ensure what kindly of valuables you have in the house – and which suite they’re incoming.

How the crime follows placed?

“So you expire and secern your Facebook Quaker* how much you’re looking forth to going along holiday side by side Tuesday. I may go on to Google Street perspective and consider true photographs of your ménage. I can see if you have a burglar alarm, or whether there are any bushes in the garden to hide in. And I can see all the alleyways I can escape down. And, of course, I know you won’t be at home. Burglars only burgle homes if they think they can get away with it. All of this information is likely to leave them feeling much more confident that they can,” added Fraser.

The social engineering

Henhouse insurance agent barmy aside that cardinal grosbeak grossbeak percentage by exploiters regularly behaviour going Interahamwe stylishness the plastered proficient converted them to bristle encircle their whereabouts piece they are seedy from loaded home. “Dashing uncomparable encase you clangour because an further slushing just about into your Facebook give notice not government greenback, they latterly dilate what we prognosticate poke barroom mixer masterminding acquisition – mulct inquiry prison given examinations to descriptor operational the true up close to you,” said Jason Hart, senior vice president of CRYPTOCard Network Security. “And that can cause havoc. Let’s say they got your email address, then they could go to your email account pretending to be you and saying you have forgotten your password.

The message

“The describe leave and then have a bun in the oven a security evaluates strategy evaluates enquiry – something rhyming your deary nourishing or your kickoff pet. Over the following weeks and months, it isn’t hard for them to work ऐconversations round to subjects like that on Facebook. Once they have that secret ऐinformation, the email account will let them in. And once they are in there, they can find lots of sensitive information. The message is simple: you wouldn’t invite a perfect stranger into your house simply because they knocked on your door and said they wanted a look around. So why do it on Facebook?,” Hart added.

When Was The Last Time You Googled Yourself?

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Have you Googled yourself lately?

I am sure you have…

And what did you find?

No… dont tell me. But, you know that only if the results are other than Facebook, Twitter & other social networking sites then you are talking!

In my talks I have emphasized that in the times to come & may be much earlier, your CV will NOT be on an A4-sized paper or a Word file where you list all your past & present activities, qualification, professional experience, extra-curricular activities etc.

You will be ‘Googled’.

And whatever the results say about you, will be considered the ‘truth’: Nothing but the truth!

Even today this is true. Companies, big & small, make it a point to check out your bio on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace etc and check & observe what sort of a person you are and how you ‘carry yourself’ in the online world. And are you really worth hiring.

Online world is now no different than the real world. In fact, your online world IS your real world.

Everyone knows what you did last evening. Even if you don’t want to tell them, your ‘friends’ will. Not by talking about it maybe, but tagging you in videos and pictures etc., telling the whole world what you have been up to.

]]>

You have real friends online who you interact with on a daily or even hourly-basis. Every word you ever said on the Internet REMAINS there – forever. Yes, it may sound a little too scary, but it is the sad truth.

I recently watched BBC’s “The Virtual Revolution” on an Emirates flight, where Dr Aleks Rotoski did a remarkable job of explaining how things work in the online world and what is the cost of ‘free’ that we all are paying. Interesting point of view & a must-watch for everyone.

Most of us do not even think before posting stuff & comments on our walls & statuses or even on friends’ wall, yet these are the very things that could haunt you, much later in life or maybe… Forever?

You must have heard that employees have been fired or refused insurance claims based on their activities online. A little research here & there could reveal what you are or have been up to. Hence, enjoy yourself, but BE CAREFUL.

You dont have to be looking for a job to have better search results for yourself. Imagine you meeting someone interesting at an event or a conference, party, meeting, lunch/dinner. Imagine him/her giving you a business card which only mentions the persons name…And beneath it says:

Google Me!

Can you say this for yourself?

And…

If someone Googles you, would you be satisfied at what he or she would find?

If you are, hats off to you!

If not, are you ‘working on it’? The best time to work on it is NOW!

Hope to see a ‘Googlier You’ soon!

Dare to dream!

Follow your passion.
